So how can we fund treatment programs? Simple. Increase the Oregon beer tax and use those proceeds to fund effective programs for the hundreds of Oregonians who need and want help. Oregon's beer tax is one of the lowest in the nation. It's a tax that hasn't been increased in 30 years.

It's a popular refrain from many in the West. When Californians move in, it's always their fault when things change. They infect the rest of the region with their politics and questionable driving, and make housing prices soar.

Choose your data source, pick your location, download the .KML file, and dive in, you data junkie. Unfortunately GCensus currently only has information for California, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. But it is way cool looking to see census data on a 3-d map.

Ten years after Oregonians passed a controversial ballot measure allowing physicians to help some patients take their own lives, the records show that what critics feared has apparently not happened. No rush to end one's life, no people flocking here from other states, no pressure from family, doctors, and insurance companies to commit suicide.

A 200-year study of rotting logs in the Oregon Cascade Range is only 10 percent complete, but findings from this research have already helped save hundreds of millions of dollars, improved forest health and shattered conventional wisdom about the decay of woody debris.

The 200-foot-tall Sitka spruce tree has stood for 700 years, but after a fierce windstorm swept through the Pacific Northwest last month, the famed Klootchy Creek Giant may not stand much longer. The storm left the tree, designated one of the two largest Sitka spruces in the nation, with a spiral hole in its trunk 18 inches deep and 15 feet long.
